Children in Foster Care in Missouri

  • Every day, children are removed from their families because of neglect or abuse.
  • There is a growing need for families willing to open their hearts and homes to children and teenagers.
  • We need families that will walk with children during a time of crisis and welcome them unconditionally into their lives.
  •

Foster Care

Foster care is providing a temporary and loving home for a child who is not able to live with his or her biological parents due to abuse or neglect. There is no specific time that children spend in foster care – on average, a child spends approximately 2 years in foster care. The goal is always reunification with the biological family after the reason for removal is fixed.

Foster parents help children by taking care of them as if they were their own – getting them ready for life, providing emotional support and essential needs, and loving them unconditionally. Foster families provide a safe and nurturing home while the parents receive supportive services to regain custody of their children.

When the biological parental rights are terminated, children become eligible for adoption though the court system. When reunification is not an option, children are in need of a new family. More than 100,000 children in the United States foster care system are eligible for adoption.
